Privacy Policy

The short version

There are no accounts and no sign-in. We do not ask for your name, your email address or any payment details. We do not keep a record of the links you paste or the files you download. The list of recent links you see in the app is stored in your own browser and is never transmitted to us.

The one meaningful exception is advertising: this site is supported by ads, and ad providers set their own cookies. That is described in full below.

Who is responsible

This site is operated by the operator of SaveThisMedia, established in the Netherlands. For any question about this policy or about your data, write to hello@savethismedia.com.

What is stored in your browser

Two items are written to your browser’s local storage. Neither is a cookie, and neither is ever sent to our server:

• Recent links. The last ten posts you fetched, so you can find something again without pasting the link twice. Clearing it from the app deletes it permanently - there is no copy anywhere else.
• Theme preference. Whether you chose light or dark mode.

Clearing your browser’s site data removes both. Using the site in a private window means neither survives the session.

What reaches our server

When you submit a link, our server reads the public post it points to, extracts the media addresses that X (formerly Twitter) publishes, and returns them to your browser. In the process:

• Your IP address is held in memory for about a minute, purely to enforce rate limits and stop one visitor from overwhelming the service. It is not written to a database and not used to build a profile of you.
• Media files are never stored. When a download passes through our server it is streamed straight to you and never written to disk. We host no media of any kind.
• Error logs may record that a request failed and why - for example that a post was deleted or that a source refused us. These are technical diagnostics, kept briefly, and are not tied to an identity.

Our hosting provider, like any web host, processes standard server request data on our behalf in order to deliver the site.

Advertising and cookies

This site displays advertising supplied by Google and, potentially, other ad partners. These are independent companies and they set their own cookies and similar identifiers in your browser. We do not control those cookies and we do not receive the data they collect.

• Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this and other websites.
• Google’s use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visit to this site and other sites on the internet.
• You can opt out of personalised advertising by visiting Google Ads Settings. You can also opt out of a number of other vendors at aboutads.info and youronlinechoices.com.
• For more detail on how Google handles data from sites that use its services, see Google’s partner-sites policy.

Where the law requires it - in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom and Switzerland - advertising cookies are only set after you have given consent, and you can change or withdraw that choice at any time through the consent control on the site. Blocking third-party cookies in your browser will not stop this site from working.

Media loaded from other domains

Previews and downloads point at the content delivery network of X (formerly Twitter). When your browser loads one of those files it contacts that network directly, so that network can see your IP address in the same way any site you visit can. We deliberately send no referrer information with those requests, so the source is not told which page you came from.

Your rights

If you are in the European Economic Area or the United Kingdom, the GDPR gives you the right to access, correct, delete, restrict or object to the processing of your personal data, and to lodge a complaint with your national supervisory authority. If you are in California, the CCPA gives you the right to know what is collected and to ask that it be deleted, and we do not sell personal information.

In practice we hold almost nothing that could identify you: the recent-links list is on your device and you can clear it yourself, and IP addresses are discarded within about a minute. If you want to exercise a right or simply ask what we hold, write to hello@savethismedia.com and we will respond within 30 days.

Children

This service is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect data from them. If you believe a child has provided us with personal data, contact us and we will delete it.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes, the revision date at the top of the page changes with it. Continuing to use the site after a change means you accept the revised policy.
